Job Overview
Intelligent Fire Systems & Solutions Inc. (IFSS) is seeking an experienced and results-driven Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations within our fire protection construction and service business. This critical leadership role manages job costing, billing, cash flow forecasting, internal controls, and financial reporting—ensuring that our financial infrastructure scales with company growth. As Controller, you will collaborate directly with executive leadership and operations to drive profitability, support strategic decisions, and uphold financial discipline across all departments.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Governance- Lead day-to-day accounting functions and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
- Implement and enforce internal controls and financial policies to protect assets.
- Provide strategic financial insights, forecasts, and scenario analyses to executive leadership.
- Maintain consistent financial governance across all departments and branch offices.
- Oversee job costing, WIP tracking, and margin analysis tied to labor, materials, and change orders.
- Collaborate with Operations to improve cost control, budget accuracy, and profitability.
- Monitor variances between projected and actual job performance to identify risks early.
- Manage all billing types (progress, T&M, service) and ensure contract compliance.
- Oversee AR performance, collections strategies, and risk mitigation for delinquent accounts.
- Forecast cash flow needs and ensure sufficient working capital for payroll and vendor payments.
- Oversee accounts payable and ensure timely, compliant vendor processing.
- Ensure accurate payroll cost allocation to jobs and cost codes.
- Maintain compliance with union, non-union, and prevailing wage requirements.
- Monitor labor efficiency, overtime trends, and related cost drivers.
- Develop and maintain dashboards tracking margin, AR aging, cash flow, backlog, labor efficiency, and more.
- Translate complex financial data into actionable insights and business strategies.
- Identify emerging risks and opportunities through proactive analysis.
- Manage and mentor accounting and finance staff across AP, AR, billing, and payroll support.
- Set performance expectations, create cross-training plans, and drive process improvements.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
- Support audits, tax filings, and liaise with banks, bonding companies, and insurers.
- Ensure full compliance with financial, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership roles.
- Construction industry experience is required; fire protection industry experience is a plus.
- Proven knowledge of job costing, WIP accounting, AR/AP, billing, and close cycles.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting, ERP, and job costing software.
- Strong understanding of construction billing, lien documentation, and labor cost allocation.
- Soft Skills:
- High accountability, confidentiality, and discretion.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.
- Comfortable in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
