As the Fleet Maintenance Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the maintenance department, ensuring the fleet is well-maintained, safe, and ready for daily operations. This role is essential to the smooth functioning of transit services, offering the opportunity to lead a skilled team, manage resources, and uphold high standards of safety and efficiency. Reporting to the General Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the quality and reliability of our vehicles and facilities.
Responsibilities- Supervise all maintenance department employees, including mechanics and service personnel, to ensure efficient and high-quality work.
- Oversee and coordinate the repair and preventative maintenance of buses, vehicles, and equipment used in transit operations.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules in line with manufacturers’ recommendations and safety requirements.
- Act as a liaison with manufacturers’ representatives regarding vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain and manage parts inventory, order supplies, and recommend the purchase of tools and equipment as needed.
- Inspect facilities, including shops, grounds, and buildings, to identify and address maintenance or repair needs.
- Review vehicle and equipment damage, assist in preparing insurance claims and repair estimates.
- Assign daily work to mechanics and service personnel, monitor work quality, and review time utilization.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of labor, parts usage, fuel, and tire inventory using computerized maintenance software.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and participate in company safety training programs.
- Take immediate corrective action when safety hazards are identified in the facility or vehicles.
- Protect and secure parts, supplies, and the maintenance facility.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform mechanic duties as required.
- Experience in vehicle or fleet maintenance, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance and repair practices for buses or similar vehicles.
- Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate maintenance activities and personnel.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills, including experience with computerized maintenance software.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Must obtain and maintain an Indiana Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Ability to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen and participate in ongoing random drug and alcohol testing.
