Employee Type: RegularThis position will safely perform all aspects of rolling stock maintenance as assigned by the supervisor. This requires a strong commitment to safety while ensuring that equipment remain functional, reliable and well maintained.

Job Description:
 

Essential Duties:

  • Perform preventive maintenance such as change oil and grease and replace components on a scheduled basis.
  • Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replace parts, repair, and rebuild as necessary.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Read blueprints and follow service manuals and parts lists in setting up and performing repairs and any rebuilds.
  • Utilize work orders and requisitions for ordering parts and maintenance of equipment cost records.
  • Advise when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when continued operation will have no harmful effect.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and State and Federal environmental regulations.

Other Duties:

  • Operate the equipment to diagnose problems.
  • Operate light vehicles to travel throughout the mine site.
  • Maintain shop area in a safe and clean manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Background in repair and maintenance including ability to read, understand, and use prints and manuals.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, i.e., engine, transmission, drive train, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Skilled in diagnosing malfunctions.
  • Must be able to work rotating 12 hour shift work

Education, Training and Experience:

  • On-the-job training or vocational training is preferred
  • Must pass the necessary written and practical tests for this position
