I. Purpose of the position:

This position performs moderate accounting and administrative work associated with the receipt and disbursement of

departmental funds.

II. Essential Functions of the position:

  • Perform standard accounting functions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, auditing, purchasing, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Maintain records; create reports; perform account reconciliations and prepare related deposits, invoices, payments, work sheets, cash balances, proofs, and schedules as appropriate for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Analyze data and prepare periodic and annual expenditure, revenue, budget, and other reports; assist in the preparation of required annual financial statements.
  • Evaluate standard fiscal transactions, procedures, and practices, and determine and initiate appropriate action.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries, provide information and technical assistance with regard to accounting information and transactions.
  • Participate in the workflow of the office to meet deadlines; ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain clear, accurate and complete logs, files and records and provide reports to management staff as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

III. Typical Work Schedule:

  • Knowledge of established governmental and departmental bookkeeping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws and regulations to the maintenance of financial records.
  • Ability to prepare fiscal reports and analyses of financial statements.

Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience (required at time of hire):

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field and two (2) year experience; or a High school or General Education Development Diploma (GED) and four (4) years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • The work is primarily sedentary work requiring exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: fingering, handling, hearing, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.
  • During a State of Emergency, and at the discretion of the County Manager, county employees may be called in for service.
  • This includes both essential and non-essential personnel.
