What You'll Do:
Starting pay for this position is $15.45 per hour.The Park Attendant employee will perform landscaping and grounds maintenance work assignments at High Point City Lake Park; ensures grounds and facilities are clean, well kept, and safe for patrons. Performs ongoing landscaping tasks, as well as routine maintenance of landscaping equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under immediate supervision of a Park Supervisor.
Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Performs basic clean up duties on grounds, facilities, and equipment;
- Picks up litter, lifts and empties garbage cans, cleans public restrooms and offices, and cleans equipment after use;
- Performs regular maintenance of grounds, including preparation of and addition to grounds involving push mowing, weed eating, trimming, digging, planting of trees and shrubs, etc.;
- Applies chemicals and fertilizers in general grounds maintenance activities;
- Assists with preventive maintenance of recreation and parks facilities;
- Paints buildings, shelters and playground equipment;
- Assists in general repairs to buildings, shelters and playground equipment;
- Assists in setting up temporary stages and moving equipment, tables, chairs and picnic tables for group events;
- Assists with pool maintenance, sweeping the pool bottom;
- Assists in towing disabled watercraft back to dock;
- Maintains and keeps fish feeders filled;
- Assists with dock and water buoy maintenance and repairs;
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Formal Education, which includes basic arithmetic.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Must be 16 years of age.
Physical Requirements
Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are necessary to converse with program participants, facility patrons, and coworkers.
Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:
- Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see customers in or around boats and amusement rides, to assure their safety. Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected
- Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see nails, paint brushes, cash register, food items, and other work aids close at hand. Both eyes 20/22 corrected
- Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances in order to ensure the safety of program participants. Depth perception – 4
- Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see wide span to cover playground with children and other people entering and leaving to assure safety. Must be alert to surroundings.
- Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye. Must be able to adjust eye lens to focus readily when glancing from near work to distance work to monitor activities and ensure safety at all areas.
Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:
- Medium to Heavy Work
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position.
- Work requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, stretching, pushing, and pulling, although worker does sit on occasions. There is significant use of arms, hands, feet, and legs.

Good judgement is important because the individual may interact directly with the public on a constant basis and may be working in the absence of a supervisor.
Mathematics Ability
- Using arithmetic and/or Statistics: Ability to use arithmetic to add and figure number of program participants and attendants, count money and make change, figure daily revenue collections, and make various reports. Ability to use basic calculations to determine ratios, percentages, and surface area for ecology analysis.
Language Ability
- The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position. Ability to be conversant in voice and diction to participate in discussions in person and by telephone.
Environmental Conditions
Physical Surroundings
- The Park Attendant employee is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot or cold environment.
Hazards
- The Park Attendant employee will be exposed to working outside in a range of weather conditions and occasionally around controlled burning operations. Employee will be exposed to trash, garbage and paint. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
Machinery/Tools/Work Aids/Other Equipment
- Items which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: Push mower, weed eater, hedge trimmer, shovels, rakes, hand tools, and cash register. Operates Cushman truck, maintenance truck and amusement rides.
