JOB SUMMARY:
The USDA Train Inspector is responsible for ensuring the safety, compliance, and operational efficiency of trains transporting agricultural products. This role involves conducting thorough inspections, enforcing regulations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to maintain high standards of safety and quality in the transportation of agricultural goods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of trains and railcars transporting agricultural products to ensure compliance with USDA regulations and safety standards.
- Evaluate the condition of railcars, including structural integrity, cleanliness, and suitability for transporting specific agricultural commodities.
- Verify that loading and unloading procedures adhere to USDA guidelines and industry best practices.
- Monitor and document the handling and storage of agricultural products during transit to prevent contamination and spoilage.
- Collaborate with rail operators, agricultural producers, and other stakeholders to address any issues or non-compliance identified during inspections.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records of findings, actions taken, and recommendations for improvement.
- Stay updated on USDA regulations, industry standards, and advancements in rail transportation technology.
- Provide training and guidance to rail operators and agricultural producers on best practices for safe and compliant transportation of agricultural products.
- Participate in investigations of accidents or incidents involving trains transporting agricultural goods and contribute to the development of preventive measures.
