About this job

Our mission at Calvary Day School is to provide a Christ-centered educational experience for students attending from Birth through 12th grade through the development of the total student- spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.

Our mission focus is vital as the largest Christian school and premier educational leader in Savannah. Like Christ, we seek to grow in wisdom (Luke 2:52) as we partner with families daily. We deliver exceptional academic offerings while fostering relationships in small groups, chapel, small classes, student services, and grade-level academics. Calvary uses co-curricular programming to teach life and leadership skills in athletics, fine arts, and the myriad of clubs and activities offered. Through our robust college counseling program, we provide a variety of services allowing for individualized higher education planning. Mentorship and intentional counseling prepare our students to be a light on a hill on college campuses and beyond. Our highly skilled faculty and staff love the Lord, love our students, and are passionate about their calling. They are the heartbeats of our school. Their experience and pedagogical expertise allow Calvary to create an educational atmosphere that thrives on relationships amid discovery.

Calvary is seeking Substitute Teachers to step into the classroom when the lead teacher needs to be out. The substitute is to implement the lesson plans provided, share in the mission of the school by building relationships with the students, and manage the classroom, ensuring students' success.

In order to create an encouraging learning environment for students while their regular teacher is absent, the Substitute Teacher will need to effectively manage and instruct the class from attendance to tidying up the classroom after the students have left. Some of the Substitute Teacher’s duties and responsibilities include:

Follow the lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.

Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment.

Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each student.

Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria.

Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.

For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plan.

Qualifications:

Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a willingness to model Jesus Christ in all we say and do.

Experience in coaching, teaching, or administration in the core competencies or other disciplines.

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach.

Willingness to be part of a collaborative environment and work closely with colleagues and parents.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Capacity to meet the physical demands of the role.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
