Senior Counsel Requirements & Qualifications


  • Admission to the bar in California
  • 10+ years of insurance defense and litigation experience
  • Proven ability to manage all aspects of litigation independently
  • Exceptional legal writing and oral advocacy skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and resolve issues in a fast-moving practice


Senior Counsel Preferred Background & Skills


  • Experience overseeing and mentoring associates and paralegals
  • Familiarity with Westlaw for legal research


Senior Counsel Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • Manage a caseload of 10–20 matters in insurance defense litigation
  • Investigate claims, develop case strategies, and conduct legal research
  • Draft and respond to discovery, pleadings, and motions
  • Take and defend depositions; review and analyze documents for production
  • Attend court hearings and argue motions
  • Prepare for and participate in mediations and trials
  • Maintain proactive, effective client communication and reporting
  • Supervise and support junior legal staff
