Job Description SummaryThe Associate Dean supports ambitious university enrollment goals of building increasingly talented and diverse incoming classes by actively recruiting and enrolling students from a designated recruitment territory; reading and evaluating applications for admission; and supporting the overall campus visit experience. In addition, they will contribute to the implementation of communications strategies and initiatives in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Contributes to a welcoming and enriching campus visitation program by leading information sessions, conducting occasional student interviews, and supporting communication efforts. This position will have partial responsibilities to support the implementation of communications strategies and new initiatives under the direction of the Sr. Associate Dean. The salary, title, and reporting structure of this position will be commensurate with a candidate’s experience.Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Collects data, plans and executes admissions travel to specified geographical regions in alignment with university enrollment goals, such as building a broader and more robust applicant pool. Evaluates data, assessing the effectiveness of travel and making adjustments for subsequent visits. Serves as the University’s admissions representative and liaison to secondary schools and students. Determines how best to disseminate information about Wake Forest to specific markets and tailors admissions activities accordingly. Educates and updates high school counselors and prospective students concerning the University’s mission, characteristics and accomplishments. Represents Wake Forest at college fairs, evening information sessions, college admissions panels and individual high school visits.
  • Annually analyzes qualifications of over 2,000 prospective students utilizing established admissions standards, guidelines, and criteria. Conducts subjective evaluations of applicants for admission to the College. Critiques complex admissions essays and evaluate candidates demonstrated talents, character and potential contributions to Wake Forest. May independently contact secondary school professionals or recommenders to solicit clarification or additional information concerning applicants. Must maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive personal and academic information submitted in the application process by applicants, secondary school professionals or others.
  • Year-round project or committee oversight as assigned by the Dean of Admissions or VP for Enrollment.
  • As a sole presenter, creates and conducts some daily group admissions information sessions for prospective students and parents (over 25,000 visitors per year).
  • Promptly reply to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic programs, diversity and inclusion practices, and extracurricular opportunities via telephone and email. Proactively outreach to the most notable of prospective students to introduce them to the university and further encourage their enrollment.
  • Annually update external presentation assets to ensure they align with university updates and standards.
  • Participates and assists in the coordination of various communications focused recruiting programs and projects. Responsible for updating and revising admissions presentations in conjunction with the university’s integrated marketing efforts.
  • Supports the maintenance of up-to-date records and statistics on current applicants and communications trends.
  • May be asked to conduct evaluative admissions interviews, imparting information about the University to prospective students.
  • Serve as a model and mentor for new and junior-level admissions officers.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • BA/BS with a strong academic record and three or more years related work experience.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills (direct reports may be added in time).
  • Knowledge of Wake Forest academic and extracurricular programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of budget development and fiscal management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word and EXCEL.
  • Ability to foster teamwork, inclusion, and collegiality in a small office and with other departments.
  • Ability to travel extensively.
  • Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Knowledge of Slate by Technolutions and Powerfaids preferred.
