The Shop Technician is responsible for testing, filling, and hydrotesting portable fire extinguishers and suppression cylinders. This role ensures all extinguishers meet NFPA and code requirements while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient shop environment. The ideal candidate is reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced service environment.Key Responsibilities
  • Test portable fire extinguishers to ensure compliance with NFPA and state code requirements
  • Fill fire extinguishers and various fire suppression cylinders
  • Perform hydrostatic testing on cylinders and tanks
  • Maintain safe working practices while servicing cylinders and operating shop equipment
  • Assist with counter sales and customer walk-ins as needed
  • Manage inventory, including receiving, stocking, and shipping materials
  • Maintain the safety, cleanliness, and organization of the warehouse
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–3 years of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and training
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Basic math and counting skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to follow shop safety procedures
  • Basic knowledge of fire protection systems (alarms, sprinklers, suppression) preferred
