  • Wage: $25.72 to $27.78 per hour
  • Schedule: 9AM-4:45PM, Monday- Friday
  • Location: 50 Clinton Street, 4th Floor in Hempstead NY

 

 

What drives the core purpose of this job:

The One-Stop Career Center is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused Intake Counselor to serve as the first point of contact for job seekers. This role involves participant intake, accurate documentation and recordkeeping, and connecting individuals to appropriate workforce development resources with professionalism, discretion, and strong follow-through.

 

What are the key responsibilities:

  • Manage intake paperwork and maintain accurate, timely documentation of customers’ personal records
  • Ensure all registration and consent forms are properly completed, signed, and filed
  • Maintain thorough and accurate case notes and documentation to support follow-through and compliance
  • Appropriately handle and safeguard customers’ personally identifiable information (PII)
  • Answer inquiry calls and respond to emails from prospective customers in a timely and professional manner
  • Perform data entry and related clerical and administrative tasks with attention to detail
  • Refer customers to partner agencies and internal services based on individual needs and eligibility
  • Track follow-up actions to ensure customers are connected to services without delays
  • Attend required staff webinars, workshops, meetings, and trainings
  • Provide general information about HempsteadWorks programs and services
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to complete tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong follow-through skills, ensuring data entry and documentation are completed accurately and on time
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft office software including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in a similar intake, administrative, customer service, or human services role

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience using the One-Stop Operating System (OSOS)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages strongly preferred)
