Job Description
As a Construction Technician for CAPITAN Construction, you will be responsible for performing various tasks to assist in the construction, renovation, and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure projects. The Construction Technician must understand the practices, techniques, and technologies required for the work they are performing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform a variety of routine and specialized construction tasks, including troubleshooting, making minor and major repairs, and new construction, including but not limited to any or all of the following:
- Plastering, fence building, floor, ceiling, and wall repairs
- Major and minor roof repairs
- Ensure that buildings and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly condition in accordance with health and fire regulations and as directed by the supervisor or Project Manager
- Report any safety hazards, incidents, or issues to the supervisor immediately
- Report unusual conditions and situations that may endanger the mechanical functions or operations of the project to the project manager
- Maintain hand and power tools in working condition
- Assist tradespersons in construction activities
- Direct traffic at or near construction sites
- Erect and dismantle structures
- Load and unload construction materials
- Operate construction equipment
- Perform tasks such as digging trenches, operating power tools, and lifting heavy materials
- Follow project plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate and quality work
- Remove rubble and debris with shovels and other equipment
- Collaborate with the construction team to complete projects on time and within budget
- Operate a company vehicle to travel to and from assigned job sites in a safe and timely manner
REQUIREMENTS:
- General knowledge of the tools, methods, and materials used in building construction work; building/maintenance experience a plus
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools and equipment, measure distance and calculate quantities, and read blueprints
- Specialized repair abilities or experience in some of the following areas are preferred: general carpentry, plumbing, plastering, electrical, concrete work, tile work, and painting
- Good driving record. Ability to pass a driver's background check
- Ability to operate light to heavy machinery, vehicles, and equipment
- High school diploma (or equivalent skills and experience)
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, receive and give instructions, and prepare work orders and reports, including via the use of a computer or other device
- Must have reliable transportation; reliability and punctuality are critical
- Ability to walk or stand and move about the resort (both indoors and outdoors) for eight or more hours per day, move on and climb a ladder, sit, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds
- The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
- Be a team player who will do whatever it takes to win for you, your team, and the organization
- Ability to listen well and follow instructions closely
- Member of a high-performance team traveling to customers homes to perform scheduled work in local area
- Installation of products and services under the supervision of trained professionals
- Desire to grind it out daily knowing that hard work is rewarded
- Work outdoors in year-round climates
- Handle an average of 8 to 10 hours of physical labor daily
The construction technician is responsible for a multitude of responsibilities. A successful candidate requires good mechanical aptitude with the ability and desire to learn.
