POSITION INFORMATION
DGL Consulting Engineers (DGL) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Project Surveyor (Licensed) to join our team in Fishers, Indiana. DGL is celebrating our 100-year anniversary and actively growing while creating exciting opportunities for the ideal candidate! This candidate will assist in conducting various types land surveys and providing accurate measurements to support various internal and external projects throughout local communities and the state. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills as well as the ability to work in an office and field environment while collaborating with project teams. • Reports to Survey Manager
• Full-time, Non-Exempt
• 3-5 years of previous experience in field surveying with at least one year of office experience
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead boundary, right of way, topographic, utility, control and construction surveys
• Assist project and survey managers in planning schedules, developing tasks, preparing scopes, fee proposals, and project budgets
• Work with administrative staff to open and close survey projects
• Conduct deed, record survey, right of way plan, and utility research
• Lead field and office survey team members throughout project lifespans with effective communication and proven survey practices
• Conduct boundary analysis and right of way determination
• Prepare/archive survey data and reports for project records
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other surveyors to ensure project specifications and schedules are met
• Conduct effective Client communication with project updates, issues, and specifics
• Train new surveyors in the proper use of surveying equipment and techniques
• Utilize surveying equipment such as Trimble total stations, GPS, and levels
• Utilize surveying software such as Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D for post field survey processing and quality reviews
• Adhere to local, state, and federal surveying regulations
• Performs duties safely and efficiently in compliance with local, company, and client safety requirements; identifies and addresses hazardous conditions and potentially unsafe conditions and promptly notifies supervisory personnel
SKILL SET
• Working knowledge of surveying principles and practices
• Proficient with Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Understanding of surveying software Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D
• Proficiency in using survey field equipment and its standard of care
• Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication, reliability, and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of surveying laws, ethics, and regulations
• Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy, organization and within established deadlines
• Ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively on various sized projects
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, stakeholders and the general public
• Flexibility to travel, including overnight, minimal as needed
• Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds and complete physical labor
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on difficult terrain, including entering wooded areas
• Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Firm understanding of Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, and Open Roads Design (ORD) software
• Experienced with proposal preparation and project estimates
• Past experience working on DOT and State Turnpike projects. Prequalified DOT Right of Way Plan Designer and/or Reviewer a plus
• Additional experience beyond the minimum qualifications is a plus
• Efficient with Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Proficient with right of way plan review and legal description writing
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university in land surveying, engineering, geomatics, or engineering technology
• Professional Surveyor (PS) Registration in good standing of the State where assigned office resides
