Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & Design Excellence
- Lead mechanical design projects, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Perform detailed technical analyses and engineering calculations to support high-performance, energy-efficient building systems.
- Conduct Internal Technical Reviews (ITRs) of peer designs to maintain quality, consistency, and best practices.
- Survey existing equipment and site conditions to inform design decisions and system integration.
- Develop and review technical specifications and written engineering narratives as part of comprehensive project deliverables.
- Review production drawings and contractor submittals; respond to RFIs and conduct site visits during construction to ensure design intent is maintained.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and evolving HVAC and plumbing codes.
Project Leadership & Client Engagement
- Prepare technical documentation for proposals and support project planning efforts.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
- Manage project schedules and deliverables to meet quality standards and client expectations.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings, present design concepts, and refine solutions to align with project goals.
- Support business development initiatives, including proposal writing, client engagement, and strategic planning.
Team Development & Operational Support
- Participate in internal and external technical development activities, contributing to team growth, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.
Professional Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Focus).
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or successful completion of the FE exam.
- 510 years of professional experience in mechanical building systems design.
- Strong expertise in HVAC systems and controls design.
- Extensive experience in technical writing, including specifications and engineering narratives.
- Proficiency with applicable codes and standards, including IMC, IRC, IBC, IPC, ASHRAE, and related design manuals.
- Experience using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks for mechanical design and documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and PDF software such as Adobe or Bluebeam.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality work efficiently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Willingness to travel to project locations and manufacturing sites as needed. Domestic and Overseas
- Familiarity with metal fabrication and welding practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
- Federal Design-Build project experience.
- Plumbing system design experience.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and green building certifications.
- Understanding of acoustics, thermal comfort, and indoor air quality considerations.
- LEED certification (LEED GA, LEED AP, or similar).
