Onsite – No Remote Option
Position Type
-Contract \u007C Full-Time
-40 hours per week
Schedule
-Monday–Friday
-Normally 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
-8-hour shifts with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
-No work on Federal Holidays
Position Overview
The Phlebotomist provides professional clinical laboratory specimen collection services within a federal correctional healthcare environment. Services are delivered in accordance with federal, state, and accreditation standards, supporting diagnostic testing and patient care while maintaining strict security, safety, and confidentiality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
-Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws
-Collect and instruct patients on proper collection of:
-Blood
-Urine
-Stool
-Sputum and other specimens
-Process specimens including:
-Centrifugation
-Aliquoting
-Mixing
-Transport preparation
-Handle infectious and biohazardous materials safely
-Maintain accurate inventory of needles, syringes, and lab supplies
-Enter orders and documentation into computerized laboratory systems
-Assist with laboratory paperwork, storage, and supply management
-Participate in Quality Management activities, meetings, and in-service training
-Maintain required competency and continuing training per accreditation standards
-Perform additional technical or clerical duties as needed to support operations
Required Qualifications
-Completion of one of the following:
-Accredited post-secondary phlebotomy program, OR
-Washington State–approved phlebotomy training program, OR
-Military training meeting WA State licensing requirements
-Active, unrestricted Washington State Medical Assistant–Phlebotomist license
-Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience
-Current CPR certification
-Ability to pass:
-Drug screening
-Federal law enforcement background investigation
-Knowledge of:
-Infection control and safety principles
-Medical equipment and automated systems
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills
-Ability to recognize, report, and document changes in patient condition
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience working in a correctional or institutional healthcare setting
-Familiarity with AAAHC and ACA accreditation standards
