Job Description

A CNC Machine Tool Application Engineer contributes to the success of Hartwig by working hand-in-hand with our Sales team to provide support and be a technical resource to ensure customer satisfaction. The customers we serve are in a variety of industries and rely on the Hartwig team to provide the best manufacturing solutions and support the machine tool industry. This full-time position is based in the Iowa City or the Quad cities area.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating manufacturing processes and recommending industry-leading solutions
  • Developing and testing alternative processing methods
  • Performing time studies for process improvement recommendations
  • Overseeing machine installations
  • Conducting research and assisting in presenting proposals to customers
  • Performing on-site programming and machine operation training for customers
  • Facilitating customer demonstrations by setting up and programming machine tools

Required Skills

Individuals who ideally fit this role should meet the following qualifications:

  • Two-year degree in manufacturing engineering - preferred
  • Experience in machining process development, project management and CNC programming preferred
  • Okuma machine programming experience - preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of machine tool products, options and functions
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, such as collaboration, listening, respect and work ethic, which lead to lasting and trusting relationships with team members and customers
  • Ability to work collaboratively with sales team to provide customer solutions
