Position Summary
The Project Accounting & Billing Specialist plays a key role in supporting financial performance across all engineering projects within a professional services environment. This position focuses on client billing, accounts receivable, and project budgeting. Partnering closely with Project Managers, the Project Accounting & Billing Specialist tracks budgets, monitors fee utilization, and conducts financial analysis to ensure accurate reporting and contribute to the overall success and profitability of client engagement.
The path for this role intentionally evolves beyond transactional tasks, to include additional responsibilities such as project budget oversight and financial leadership. With successful performance, there is an expected progression toward a project budget management/leadership role within approximately 5 years.
Pay Range: $70K – $90k
Core Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Project Managers to:
- Monitor project budgets, labor, expenses, and burn rates
- Track fee utilization and identify financial risks or variances
- Prepare accurate, timely client invoices (primarily time & expense–based)
- Manage accounts receivable follow-up and resolve billing issues professionally
- Support month-end close, project financial reporting, and internal controls
- Contribute to improvements in project accounting and billing processes
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience (Bachelor preferred)
- 4–8 years in project accounting, billing, or A/R (ideal)
