Custodian - Full-time

About the Department

Under general direction, provides all ordinary and necessary custodial services as required to provide a safe, clean, and sanitary working environment for employees and the public; performs other duties as required.

Position Duties

Cleans all offices, hallways, restrooms, assembly rooms, kitchen areas and mechanical rooms, etc., within the area of responsibility.

Sweeps, vacuums, dusts, and empties trash containers and replaces liners daily.

Mops and waxes tile floors as needed.

Spot cleans and shampoos carpets and washes windows as needed.

Cleans and sanitizes restrooms including toilets, lavatories, urinals, soap dispensers, paper dispensers, and services same with proper supplies daily.

Cleans and maintains breakroom and performs set-up for meetings as needed.

Updates sign marquee as directed.

Maintains and clears facility walkways and other outdoor related duties.

Mows and trims grass, pulls weeds, mulches flower gardens, and trims trees, hedges, and bushes.

Sprays herbicides.

Operates power mowers, weed eaters, and snow removal equipment.

Clears snow and ice.

Cleans parking lots and grounds.

Maintains adequate custodial supply levels.

Becomes thoroughly familiar with facility mechanical, electrical, and plumbing functions.

Assists Mechanic Supervisor with maintenance and repairs, and scheduling of maintenance and repairs.

Turns off lights, locks all gates and doors, and sets thermostats as needed.

Maintains water dispensers and their supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED.

A valid driver's license.

Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the work of this class.

Other Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be an honest, hardworking, responsible, and motivated individual with a good understanding of the duties to be performed; ability to operate hand and power tools; ability to climb ladders and work in locations above 20 feet; ability to lift, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs.
