    Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the Summer Camp Program Coordinator, the Summer Camp Nurse serves as the primary contact for medical issues including illness and injury involving campers, staff, and volunteers.  Travel required between multiple Summer Camp sites within Vernon daily.  This is a 40 hour/week Monday � Friday position.  This is a seasonal position with no benefits.

     

    General Duties

    • Treat camper and staff illness and injuries
    • Dispense medications as prescribed by camper's physician and detailed in camper's application
    • Alert Program Director of any illness and/or injury requiring additional treatment needed outside of camp setting before action is taken (except in the event of an emergency)
    • Assume responsibility and authority for decision making regarding emergencies
    • Maintain accurate logs of medication dispensing and treatment of injuries/illnesses, including documented incident reports as warranted
    • Responsible for medical supplies, logs and medications stored and locked at camp, including inventorying and packing supplies at the end of camp season
    • Review camper medical information prior to camp sessions as needed
    • Present medical portion of onsite volunteer orientation/training
    • Meet with Camp Directors daily to review any camper issues and specific areas of need that may arise
    • Performs related work as required

     

    MINIMUM Qualifications

    • Possess a current, valid RN License in good standing in the state of CT
    • Prior experience working with children and desire to work in a summer day camp setting
    • Ability to work with children ages 5-13 and possess an understanding of their social, emotional, and physical development and needs
    • Reliable access to transportation
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with parents, participants, and other Town employees
    • Ability to organize data and maintain records

     

    Physical and mental effort and Work Conditions

    • Able to lift objects in excess of 20 pounds
    • Able to concentrate for extended periods of time with interruptions
    • Able to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods
    • Able to perform moderately difficult skills such as writing and typing
    • Able to hear normal sounds with some background noise
    • Able to attend to task for an extended period of time
    • Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self or others
    • Able to communicate effectively with program participants, parents, and other Town employees
    • Potential exposure to blood, body tissues or fluids, seasonal conditions in outside weather, and to loud or unpleasant noises
