Job Summary:
The CNC Machinist III is entrusted with the operation of our largest and most complex Mazak Mill machining centers. This position is responsible for all unproven programs, including walking in tools, establishing offsets, proving out processes, and validating parts prior to full production. Machinist III’s are relied upon for their judgment, precision, and ability to prevent costly scrap, as parts machined at this level often involve significant material and machining investment.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Set up and operate large Mazak CNC milling machines using Mazatrol.

Execute unproven CNC programs, including:
-
Walking tools into the part
-
Establishing and verifying work and tool offsets
-
Making real-time program and offset adjustments
-
Prove out new jobs to ensure dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and process stability.

Validate first-piece parts prior to releasing programs for full production.

Interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.

Select appropriate tooling, work holding, and cutting strategies for large and complex parts.

Identify and mitigate risk related to machining errors, tool collisions, and material loss.

Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.

Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and program issues independently.

Maintain a high level of organization, cleanliness, and machine care.

Serve as a technical resource and mentor to Machinist I and II team members as needed.

Follow all safety, quality, and documentation requirements.

Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T.

Proven track record of precision, attention to detail, and sound decision-making.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience:

8+ years of CNC machining experience, with significant experience in CNC milling.

Experience machining large, high-value components (e.g., aerospace, hydraulic manifolds, defense, or complex industrial parts) preferred.

Demonstrated experience running unproven programs and proving out new jobs.

Strong experience with Mazak Mill machining centers and Mazatrol programming.

Prior mentoring or lead machinist experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, feel/reach with hands/arms, talk, and hear.
The employee frequently is required to sit and walk. The employee is occasionally required to bend and stop, push and pull, reach above shoulder level, kneel, squat, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
