Position Summary:
Provides direct support to children from birth to 5 years old in a typical day care setting. Follows all classroom protocols at the direction of the Teacher, Nurse Administrator and Director. Responds to children and their families in a culturally sensitive manner. Ensures each child’s health and safety, communicates with families effectively and works cooperatively in a team environment. Implements strategies to help each child meet their physical, emotional and intellectual goals under the direction of the Nurse Administrator; This position has no direct reports.

Person-centered Focus:
The CDA Teacher’s Aide supports children with developmental delays, disabilities, and health challenges in an inclusive daycare setting, with a focus on helping each child learn and grow to their fullest potential alongside their peers, following The Arc’s person-centered approach of CHOICE—Collaborating with the individual to meet their goals, taking a Humanistic approach, using keen Observation skills to guide and mentor, promoting Inclusion through active community involvement, encouraging Community/Citizenship, and Enhancing the life of each individual.
Essential Functions:
Supports children in a fun, safe, and developmentally appropriate manner by providing educational enrichment based on the daycare's curriculum, engaging and supporting them during classroom activities, utilizing appropriate protocols, materials, and strategies to meet special needs, and assisting with hygiene care and mealtimes.
Communication:
Demonstrates effective, respectful, and frequent communication with the child, the Nurse Administrator, and other involved parties, while also collaborating with the Teacher to provide appropriate supports for the child in the classroom.
Personal and Health Care:
Provides instruction, guidance, and assistance with personal hygiene, supports meal preparation and feeding as needed, and implements protocols in accordance with each child’s Nursing Care Plan and other clinical directives.
General:
Demonstrates appropriate workplace behavior, works scheduled hours with proper notification of absences or tardiness, exercises good judgment in various situations, follows safety protocols, models positive behavior, completes required training on time, maintains confidentiality, and plans activities and classroom routines in advance.
