Job Description
Medical Device Assembler
Location: Lake Zurich, IL
Schedule: 1st and 2nd Shift Opportunities
Employment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Position Overview
We are seeking detail-oriented Medical Device Assemblers to support the production of high-precision, complex catheter systems and related medical devices. This role is ideal for individuals who excel at fine, hands-on work and are comfortable working in a cleanroom, regulated manufacturing environment.
Assemblers will play a critical role in building life-saving and life-enhancing medical devices used in vascular, cardiac, gastrointestinal, urological, dialysis, anesthesia, and intravenous applications.
This position requires strong attention to detail, steady hands, and the ability to work under magnification for extended periods of time.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble complex catheter systems and medical device components under a microscope
- Use precision tools including tweezers, scalpels, and small hand tools
- Perform hand soldering and fine component assembly
- Utilize adhesives and blue-light curing techniques
- Support processes such as laser welding, tubing shrink operations, and braiding equipment
- Inspect components using calipers, micrometers, etc.
- Operate and support semi-automated equipment as needed
- Package finished medical devices according to specifications
- Complete detailed documentation of assembly processes (paper and electronic systems)
- Follow ISO standards, FDA regulations, and quality system procedures
- Maintain cleanroom protocols including proper gowning and PPE
Work Environment
- Cleanroom manufacturing environment
- Seated bench work for extended periods
- Full cleanroom attire required (gowning, hair nets, special footwear)
- Highly regulated, quality-driven setting
- Use of ERP system (Epicor)
This role is best suited for individuals who are comfortable sitting and focusing on detailed bench work. It is not a highly mobile or physically active position.
Qualifications
- Strong manual dexterity and experience working with small parts
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
- Experience in a regulated environment (medical device, pharmaceutical, aerospace, electronics, etc.) preferred
- Experience reading work instructions or blueprints preferred
- Comfortable using measurement tools and inspection equipment
- Prior experience with electrical assembly, PCB work, wire harnesses, or similar precision assembly is a plus
- Machine operators interested in transitioning into medical device assembly are encouraged to apply
- Relevant technical certifications are a plus
