Job Description

Join Our Team as a Maintenance Operator Technician – Electrician
Are you ready to power up your career? We’re looking for a skilled Maintenance Operator Technician – Electrician to join our team at the Prairie du Sac Generating Station. In this role, you’ll perform a variety of electrical, maintenance, and operational duties to keep our hydroelectric plants running safely and efficiently. From troubleshooting and repairing equipment to maintaining plant control systems and supporting generation operations, you’ll play a critical part in delivering reliable energy to our communities.
Job Summary

Performs varied electrical, maintenance, construction and operating duties as necessary to maintain and operate the hydro plants.

What you will do
  • Performs the electrical and basic instrument and control and basic mechanical troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, cleaning, inspecting, and constructing of equipment and systems for the generation facility.
  • Performs maintenance or installation of electrical equipment at Prairie du Sac or Kilbourn generating station and high voltage substation.
  • Maintains, installs, and/or directs maintenance of the basic plant control systems and related activities.
  • Maintains, calibrates, and assists with required testing of equipment and systems.
  • Maintain dams, gates, locks, turbine-generators, auxiliary equipment, including major and minor electrical and mechanical overhaul work, concrete repair and construction.
  • Performs the operating duties at generating stations as assigned and as circumstances require to include operation of: switchboards, turbine-generators, auxiliary systems, gates, locks and coordination with System Operation Center.
  • Performs inspection of plant and equipment as required.
  • Performs various non-structural welding tasks.
  • Performs various generating plant and shop area housekeeping functions.
  • Operates and/or obtains information from various mechancial and electrical devices used to support specific equipment diagnostics or work activities, gathers, interprets, and logs data.
  • Performs other duties which are similar, related and incidental to this position.
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma Required

Required Experience
  • 4 year's experience of electrical trade or completed apprenticeship.
  • Up to date demonstrated electrical experience required.

Preferred Experience
  • 2 years' experience in hydro operations and/or hydro plant maintenance

Other Requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License and Driver Qualification Certification prior to the end of trial period.
  • This position is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug/alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 382), and is subject to drug/alcohol testing according to said regulations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of plant and transmission systems
  • Proven mechanical ability
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of hand tools
  • Ability to lift objects up to 95 pounds
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment
