The Mission
At Salpointe Catholic High School, we believe service is a fundamental expression of our faith and a key component of our Carmelite charism. We also believe that spiritual retreats are critical to students’ faith journeys and provide unique opportunities to build community and learn to pray as a Carmelite. We are seeking a dynamic, faith-filled Service & Retreat Coordinator who will:
Transform our service program from compliance-based requirements into a coordinated program that fosters compassion and lifelong commitment to justice.
Using the Kairos capstone retreat as a guide, build an underclassmen retreat program that builds community among students and helps them develop a quiet prayer practice that allows them to hear the voice of God.
The Service & Retreat Coordinator is responsible for the vision, implementation, and oversight of all student community service initiatives. This individual will not just manage logistics; they will serve as a motivator, helping students see the face of Christ in the community members they serve. The Coordinator will also be responsible for helping to develop and implement underclassmen retreats to include leadership selection, logistics, programming, and mentoring.
We are seeking a mission-driven educator who is deeply committed to the formation of young people and the values of Catholic education. The ideal candidate is social-justice minded and able to ignite that same passion in teenagers, helping students see their role in creating a more just and compassionate world. The ability to organize multiple retreats for freshmen and sophomores throughout the year is critical, including coordinating campus spaces, arranging for food and beverages, and developing meaningful activities that inspire students. This individual has a proven track record of working effectively with high school students, demonstrating a strong understanding of adolescent development and the ability to appropriately challenge, inspire, and support students during these formative years. The successful candidate is a practicing Catholic, or someone with a deep respect for the Catholic tradition, who views service not simply as an obligation, but as a spiritual calling rooted in faith and action, and understands the value of coming together on retreat to grow in faith and fellowship.Strong communication skills are essential, along with the confidence and presence to speak comfortably and authentically to large groups of students, parents, and community partners.Key ResponsibilitiesVisionary Leadership: Re-imagine the service curriculum to emphasize why we serve and ensure positive and formative student service experiences; build a program that introduces students to the power of retreat experiences and prepares them for Kairos.
Relationship Building: Develop and maintain partnerships with Tucson-based nonprofits, parishes, and community organizations, as well as campus entities whose cooperation is essential to planning successful retreats.
Student Mentorship: Work directly with high school students to help them reflect on their experiences through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching and help to develop their leadership skills.
Program Management: Organize school-wide "Service Days," immersion trips, local outreach opportunities; plan and implement multiple one-day underclassmen retreats.
Integration: Collaborate with the Theology Department and Campus Ministry to ensure service and underclassmen retreats are integrated into the spiritual life of the school.
