REQUIREMENT
ARCTOS is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Digital Systems Integration Specialist to join our team supporting AFRL’s Electronic Materials Branch (AFRL/RXEE). The mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory is to lead the discovery, development, and integration of warfighting technologies for our air, space, and cyberspace forces. Scientists at AFRL work on problems ranging from fundamental science to real world systems. The Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (AFRL/RX) is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH. Scientists in AFRL/RX develop materials, processes, and advanced manufacturing technologies for aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, rockets, and ground-based systems and their structural, electronic and optical components.
This role is focused on enabling seamless integration of software tools and laboratory hardware across laboratory equipment, local area networks, and the cloud. The Specialist will identify needs, create a development plan to address those needs, and test potential solutions for suitability and robustness. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Digital Infrastructure Modernization:
- Lead efforts to develop and optimize tools for laboratory management, including equipment schedulers, maintenance trackers, and userbase management systems.
- Design and implement scalable solutions to modernize AFRL/RXEE’s digital infrastructure, ensuring compatibility with existing systems.
- Development of Custom Tools and Interfaces:
- Develop intuitive and secure user interfaces tailored to laboratory needs using modern programming frameworks.
- Test, validate, and refine tools to ensure reliability and robustness in laboratory environments.
- Automation of Laboratory Experiments:
- Design and implement scripts to automate complex experiments, ensuring synchronization between multiple workstations and laboratory hardware.
- Integrate laboratory equipment with software systems for real-time data acquisition, analysis, and reporting.
- Documentation and Version Control:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed software, tools, and systems to ensure clarity and accessibility for future reference.
- Utilize Git repositories for version control, enabling efficient collaboration and tracking of code changes.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The well-qualified candidate will have expertise in many of these areas:
- Proficiency in software development using compiled and interpreted languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, and C++)
- Cloud-based computing, particularly within the Google Workspace environment, and with serverless container execution platforms (Cloudrun)
- Building web applications and APIs (Flask)
- Strong knowledge of software/code version control using Git repositories
- Hands-on experience with laboratory software/hardware integration, particularly with LabView and/or Python
- Solid understanding of software documentation best practices
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
EDUCATIONAL, CLEARANCE AND CERTIFICATION
- B.S. (Attained or currently worked toward) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields of science and engineering
- U.S. Citizenship is required
PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Primary work environment is a standard office setting, and some aspects of the position will require working with computer systems inside of laboratories. There is potential for a hybrid work option with occasional travel to Dayton, OH.
TRAVEL
- Travel is expected and will be performed will be under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations and/or Joint Travel Regulations.
