About this job

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work – Established according to assigned routes, no minimum hours. Regular schedule that will include weekends and evenings, based on needs.

 

Qualifications – Possess a clean driver’s license; three-years of work experience preferred. In consideration of tuition assistance and training, a 18-month work commitment as a bus driver must be signed. Failure to work the 18-months of service to the agency, will result in prorated repayment.   

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance – Authorized to work in the United States.

 

Summary/Objective – Responsible for attending trainings, driving under supervision, and actively learning during the CDL-B ELDT course. Trainees will attain permit and license with endorsements to comply with DMV Article 19-A, Federal Transit Authority, and Dept. of Transportation regulations, as well as agency policies and procedures.

 

Essential Functions – Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Responsible to train to obtain CDL License with appropriate endorsements to comply with DMV/DOT Law.
  2. Responsible to learn all requirements for compliance to 19-A regulations.
  3. Responsible to practice safe driving techniques adhering to all driving rules and regulations as set forth under DMV and DOT regulations.
  4. Responsible to attend bus driver meetings, agency trainings, and/or workshops as scheduled.
  5. Responsible to remove trash from vehicle on a daily basis and dispose of trash in garage receptacle, as well as clean the bus.
  6. Responsible to perform a "walk through" on vehicle immediately after all passengers disembark to establish neither passengers nor personal belongings remain on vehicle.
  7. Responsible to report any incidents or concerns which occur during transport according to agency policy and procedures.
  8. Responsible to maintain accurate reporting per department policy.
  9. Responsible to complete daily vehicle reports and grant reports on a daily basis using assigned equipment.
  10. Responsible to adhere to all procedures as stated in the Bus Drivers' Procedure Handbook.
  11. Responsible to determine that all passengers are seated and wearing seat belts prior to transporting.

Supervisory Responsibility – Other than oversight of passengers who are being transported, there are no direct supervisory responsibilities with this position.

 

Travel - Travel within Jefferson and St. Lawrence County for career fairs and other community events within the scope of position.

 

Work Environment – This position requires working both inside and outside as part of Public Transit driving and transporting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time, stand; walk; lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Work may require lifting, pushing, or pulling in excess of 30 pounds.
