I&C Specialist
Summary
Reporting to the Production Manager, the I&C Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and calibration of process instrumentation and controls at our district heating and cooling plants and various customer buildings. The primary objective is to ensure accuracy of instrumentation to support the safe, cost-effective, and reliable operation of boilers, chillers, auxiliary equipment, and metering.
Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Areas
- Take responsibility for scheduling work and providing necessary documentation of all work completed.
- Maintain records and equipment and calibration history using our maintenance management system.
- Become familiar with the function and operation of chill water and steam process equipment and distribution systems, eventually qualifying as a control room operator.
- Monitor work being done on plant and distribution system instrumentation, metering and controls to assure that tasks and documentation are being properly completed.
- Perform troubleshooting on Distributed Controls Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and telemetry equipment.
- Ability to communicate and interface with customer building personnel.
- Report equipment issues using maintenance management software.
- Support job planning; identify correct repair parts to be ordered.
- Assist in the development of procedures for systems modifications and installations.
- Monitor and assist in the installation of plant automation expansion or renovation projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by plant management (i.e., operation shift work, plant and distribution system maintenance, facility cleaning, customer meter reading, etc.).
- Maintain and calibrate plant and customer chilled water, steam meters, condensate, deduct, and other electronic and mechanical meters.
Requirements
Experience and Education
- Must have a State of Minnesota First Class “A” Operating Engineer’s License (or obtain within 2 years).
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work in adverse climate conditions.
- ISA CCST level 1 certification.
- OR have completed a two-year course in instrumentation, electronics and controls.
- OR have at least 5 years’ experience working with controls and instrumentation.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency in math (algebra and trigonometry).
- Basic understanding of AC/DC electricity, basic circuitry, electrical formulas, ladder logic drawings, flow and energy metering systems, control systems (mechanical, pneumatic and electronic), and field instrumentation.
- Willing to take additional training to maintain or enhance proficiency as Instrument and Control Specialist.
