Astera Health is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Medical Scribe at the Wadena Clinic. This position is a temporary position with an established end date of July 31, 2026. Any extension beyond this date is contingent upon staffing needs and is not guaranteed.
This position can work up to 24 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Accompanies the practitioner into the patient examination area in order to transcribe findings in real time as the provider evaluates the patient
- Documents the following items, as dictated:
- History of the patient’s chief complaint as given by the patient and communicated by provider.
- Review of Systems (ROS) and physical examination as given by patient and communicated by provider.
- Patient orders, laboratory tests results/needed, imaging tests results/needed, etc.
- Completes procedures notes on behalf of the provider as directed
- Enters documentation on patient progress as directed by provider
- Lists proper diagnosis/level of service as well as any discharge and/or follow-up instructions as dictated by provider
- Reviews the record and verifies that the documentation requirements have been met for the designated code assigned.
- Follows documentation compliance standards
- When the provider concludes the patient’s encounter, the provider will review all documentation completed by the Scribe, make any necessary amendments, and sign the chart. The provider is ultimately responsible for documentation of the patient’s encounter.
- Scribes do not participate in any patient care and should refer all requests related to patient care to the responsible provider or nursing staff; including, but not limited to, transporting specimens, answering phones, assisting patients, calling physicians, etc.
- Develop and maintain a mutually respectful working relationship with all providers
- Be available for provider concerns and questions and is ready to assist in documentation at all times
Competencies required include:
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to document patient care as dictated by a provider in a legible and clear manner, follow all local, state and federal guidelines for documentation
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
- Ability to work well under pressure and maintain attention to detail in order to accurately document encounter
- Demonstrated observation, listening, interpersonal and clarification skills in order to interact positively and productively with provider and patient
- Ability to effectively operate standard office equipment and software
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates a high degree of commitment to customer service excellence
- Possess cross-cultural sensitivity
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, building strong relationships
- Ability to perform tasks both collaboratively and independently
- Demonstrates concern for patients of all ages, visitors, and co-workers
- Maintains confidentiality of information and privacy compliance

Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
- 2 years of experience in related work; Or combined years of relevant education and experience to perform the essential duties of this position.
Physical Requirements:
Medium Duty: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects (based on U.S. Department of Labor data). The following physical activities are required to perform this job:
Occasionally (up to 33% of work time): Standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, smelling, color vision.
Frequently (34-66% of work time): Walking, carrying, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity vision.
