About the Department

Responsible civilian position requiring specialized training in the service of civil processes. Performs non-enforceable civil process functions within an assigned geographical area with minimal supervision.

Work is performed under the general direction of the Civil Bureau Sergeant and reviewed daily. Performance is evaluated through conferences, observation, oral/written reports and appropriate employee performance appraisals.

Position Duties
  • Attend specialized non-enforceable civil process training
  • Attend Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) in-service training, when applicable
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Ensure their issued uniform and equipment are maintained in a clean and proper condition and in good repair
  • Receive daily work assignments and organize non-enforceable process
  • Plan work by destinations and time frames
  • Conduct necessary research to simplify and ensure that every avenue is explored so that processes can be executed
  • Execute civil process in compliance with all applicable statutes and procedures and explain the content of the process to person being served
  • Receive work assignments and related civil process from the Civil Bureau office at least once daily, or as necessary
  • Turn in all civil process served from the previous day, along with Deputy Worksheets and signed Return of Service documents
  • Service of non-enforceable civil process requires no action other than proper service as directed by law. Examples are Subpoenas, Summons, Landlord 5-Day Summons, Notice to Appear, Distress Writs, Order to Show Cause, Rule to Show Cause, and any others meeting the non-enforceable rule
  • Organize work assignments by priority (court date, type of process or writ, etc.) and location to maximize productivity and performance
  • Record all actions and pertinent information on the civil process Deputy Worksheet
  • Monitor appropriate radio channels
  • Accurately enter and approve personal payroll

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • Any combination of experience and training that provides the required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:
  • Current, valid Florida driver license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Sit for moderate periods
  • See and hear at a normal range
  • Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
  • Ambulate independently
  • Lift/carry 15 pounds
  • Bend and squat
  • Manual dexterity
  • Operate a motor vehicle
  • Successfully complete ACSO’s Driving Course as required
