Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg & ED Swing position at a rural Critical Access Hospital, requiring 2+ years of experience with night shifts and every other weekend availability.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital in a rural location
  • Combined Med/Surg and ED swing unit serving a primarily geriatric patient population, including general rehab and post-surgical cases
  • Team-based patient assignments rather than individual nurse-to-patient ratios; CNAs/Nurse Aides are present on each shift
  • Common diagnoses include dementia, stroke, skin care issues, and post-surgical rehab in geriatric patients
  • Charting via Epic EMR
  • Telemonitor capacity available on the unit; RNs are not required to read their own strips
  • Patient-managed CPAP only; no additional RT equipment responsibilities beyond troubleshooting
  • Set-rate pump infusions used; no drip titration required
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • Alternating holiday coverage required
  • May be floated to the ED based on experience; travelers are first to float
  • Self-scheduling and block scheduling are available
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA); pending certifications are not accepted
  • Preferred certifications: PALS and TNCC
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Experience with geriatric patient care, including dementia, stroke, and skin care, is strongly preferred
  • ED/ER experience preferred
  • BSN not required
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts within the department only
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer for the 13-week contract should be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • No scrub color requirement; scrubs are the standard dress code
  • A charge nurse is present on each shift and participates in team-based assignments
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
