Nutrition Services Assistant - Retail

Black Bear Talent is recruiting for a Nutritional Services Assistant. As a Nutritional Services Assistant you will be working in our clients retail space supporting daily dining operations by preparing and serving food items, assisting customers, operating the cash register, and maintaining a clean and welcoming dining environment. This position is initially offered on a contract basis, with the possibility of direct hire by our client contingent upon performance.

Must be willing to work holidays and weekend rotations.

What You’ll Do

• Greet customers and provide fast, courteous, and professional service
• Assist with preparing simple food items (e.g., salads, sandwiches, grab-and-go items, reheating items, portioning prepared foods)
• Serve food to customers
• Operate a cash register or POS system; accurately handle cash and issue receipts
• Restock service areas, coolers, drink stations, and food displays
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work and dining area, including wiping surfaces, sweeping/mopping, and removing trash
• Label, date, and store food properly per safety guidelines
• Monitor and document food temperatures as required
• Follow menu protocols, food safety practices, and allergen-safety procedures

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Previous food service or customer service experience is a plus
• Friendly, helpful communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to stay organized, multitask, and work both independently and as part of a team
• Reliable attendance and punctuality required
• Comfortable with light-to-moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, and bending for prolong periods
• Knowledge of food safety/sanitation standards preferred (training provided)
• ServSafe certification preferred, or willingness to obtain
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
