We are currently seeking a board certified/board eligible Radiation Oncologist to join our team in Chambersburg, PA.

  • Excellent support and referral base from specialty and primary care physicians in Franklin County and surrounding areas from day one
  • State-of-the-art radiation oncology technology available including 2 TrueBeam linear accelerators offering IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS and other standard treatment modalities.
  • Partner with another onsite physician and a larger team of 8 other radiation oncologists in the WellSpan Network
  • Collaborative team of medical oncologists, breast surgeons, thoracic surgeon, and surgical oncologists
  • Opportunities for career and academic growth within WellSpan as well as through our oncology collaboration with Johns Hopkins Medicine 
  • Access to proton therapy, including visiting faculty appointment through a partnership with the Maryland Proton Treatment Center

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
  • Sees outpatients and inpatients in consult upon referral from other physicians in order to discuss patient condition and evaluate patient for therapy; answers patient questions and explains procedures
  • Prescribes and plans course of radiation therapy for each patient
  • During course of therapy, evaluates patient on regular basis and manages as needed depending upon patient condition; reviews treatment delivery process and chart on regular basis
  • Makes referrals to Cancer Center support personnel as appropriate, including dietician, social worker, nurse
  • Proficiency with electronic information systems which support clinical and non-clinical operations of department such as the electronic medical record
  • Evaluates patients for appropriateness for enrollment in clinical trials
  • Supports and participates in activities which are required for Cancer Center accreditation in the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and other accrediting bodies.
  • Assumes On-Call responsibilities as appropriate
Common Expectations:
  • Participates in Medical Staff activities as required and/or as requested.
  • Observes the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control Standards; participates and contributes to Quality Assurance Plan and performance improvement initiatives
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Required or
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required
Work Experience:
  • Experience obtained during residency. Required
Licenses:
  • Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required or
  • Licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required
Courses and Training:
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Oncology residency. Upon Hire Required and
  • Appropriate training in radiation therapy and radiation safety. Upon Hire Required and
  • Appropriate specialized training. Upon Hire Required
