We're seeking a dedicated Travel & Training Coordinator (Finance Specialist 2) to join the Health Department team. This vital role involves overseeing all aspects of travel and training, ensuring compliance with County policies, and directly supporting the Department's commitment to racial equity and reducing health disparities. As the Travel & Training Coordinator, you will:
Provide travel and training services to all levels of Health Department staff and operations.
Analyze travel and training requests to ensure compliance with County policies; instruct travelers on County Administrative Policy FIN-2, guiding travel and training required procedures.
Interpret and apply rules and fiscal policies toward specific traveling requests to ensure requests comply with policies and ethics guidelines.
Work with contracted travel service to arrange airfare; register travelers for conferences, seminars and trainings; reserve lodging and ground transportation services.
Ensure trip reconciliations are completed in a timely manner; arrange payment or collection of amounts due to/from a traveler after a reconciliation is completed.
Conduct internal audit and compliance reviews; produce reports and spreadsheets for tracking.
Calculate trip per diem and ensure that travelers are paid in time for their trip; maintain an inventory of travel cards and ensure appropriate assignment to travelers.
Analyze and prepare detailed travel/ financial reports for audits, inquiries and other official requests.
Provide training to employees, clients and stakeholders on travel and related finance requirements.
Analyze current processes and make recommendations to management on process improvements or potential conflicts in policy or process.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:
Education/ training equivalent to a bachelor's degree.
Three (3) to six (6) years of progressively responsible accounting or fiscal management experience.
Must pass a reference check.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Hybrid Telework: This position is designated as “hybrid telework,” meaning you will be working both remotely (from home) and in person at an onsite location. The designation of Hybrid Telework may be subject to change at a future time. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. The onsite work location for this position is the Gladys McCoy Building, 619 NW 6th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209.
Serving the Public, Even During Disasters:
Everyday, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather, natural disaster, or other types of community emergency response. During these emergency responses, while typically there begins with a call for volunteers, county employees may ultimately be reassigned from their current position to a role in the emergency response in order to support the critical needs presented by our communities.
