Applicants should note that the MGIST serves a distinct student population of working professionals who are seeking graduate-level qualifications to advance their careers, and who are very likely to return to professional practice. Our students bring substantial workplace experience, expect immediately applicable training, and value flexible, practice-oriented, and professionally relevant instruction.

Beyond teaching, the successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development and program assessment for GIS courses and may support recruitment as well as mentoring of students in the MGIST program. The successful candidate will also be expected to serve on department committees and undertake other service activities in support of the MGIST.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Candidates must hold a PhD in GIS, remote sensing, computer science, geosciences, environmental science, or a closely related field, and demonstrate excellence in teaching, strong proficiency in GIS, excellent communication skills, and a clear commitment to working with and supporting students.

Desired: Experience teaching in an online environment, particularly in a mostly asynchronous format, and demonstrated ability to develop high-quality digital instructional content is strongly preferred. Relevant industry experience in geospatial technologies or related fields, with the ability to bring professional practices and real-world applications into the classroom, is also strongly preferred.
