Job SummaryThe Skilled Craftsperson - General Helper is responsible for performing entry level duties such as changing light bulbs and ballasts, replacing filters on air handlers, and assisting all trade workers in the housing operations and maintenance areas. The position will be responsible for any other assigned maintenance repair duties on the campus and provide back up support in absence of technical maintenance staff. This position plays a key role to support the housing operations facilities team on the campus. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Housing Facilities Operations in the Housing Operations department.
Responsibilities- Changes light bulbs and ballasts campus wide
- Changes filters in HVAC equipment.
- May assist skilled trade workers with repairs to University housing facilities.
- Prepares reports, order parts and complete daily worksheets on all work performed.
- This position requires the employee to be available in the event of an emergency.
- Will serve as a backup for any absent staff.
- Coordinates inventory of maintenance supplies.
- Monitors and follow up on assigned work orders for status update and timely completion.
- Communicates with administrators and supervisors regarding service need changes, customer service levels, and equipment needs.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Valid Georgia Driver¿s License required.
- Ability to read and understand instructions and work orders.
- Some related experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Multiple years of related experience as a general helper in related industries or trades.
- Knowledge of proper operation and use of tools and equipment required for this position.
- Ability to work within a team.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to perform constant, intense physical labor; move & use equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Must be able to perform duties requiring push/pull activity, hand/finger coordination, constant repetitive motion of wrist, arm & shoulder; reach, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, & kneel; work with dust, fumes and odors associated with a mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) environment.
- Must be able to wear safety and protective equipment as needed.
- Ability to work from an extension ladder/lift.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Experience and knowledge of building services systems, and functions.
- Knowledge of maintenance supplies, techniques, design and implementation.
