Position Overview:
The Utilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the utilities staff at Mountain Pass to include CHP, Water Treatment, and a chemical tank farm. The Shift Supervisor will direct a crew of 4-15 employees with responsibility for safety, quality, and utility distribution to the site. This individual will be responsible for tracking, troubleshooting and adjustments of process variables.
Essential Duties:
- Provide day-to-day supervision of operators and technicians across the water treatment plant, CHP plant, and chlor-alkali operations.
- Ensure consistent execution of operating procedures, safe work practices, and plant startup/shutdown activities.
- Monitor system performance and coordinate adjustments to optimize reliability, energy efficiency, and output.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities for team members.
- Ensure operators are trained and qualified on plant processes, safety protocols, and emergency response procedures.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication across shifts and departments.
- Champion a strong safety culture, reinforcing compliance with company policies, MSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and process safety standards.
- Ensure all permits, inspections, and required documentation for water, energy, and chemical operations are maintained accurately and on time.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations, corrective actions, and safety meetings.
Required Experience:
- A minimum of five years of verifiable leadership experience in a power plant, water treatment plant, chemical plant, or refinery environment, with direct responsibility for supervising personnel and overseeing day-to-day operations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability to analyze data, develop reports, and communicate results effectively.
- Experience with SCADA and PLC systems is highly preferred, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting process control systems.
- Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate, develop, and manage a diverse workforce in a fast-paced industrial setting.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with engineering, maintenance, operations, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of industrial safety standards, regulatory compliance, and operational best practices.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple initiatives, and drive continuous improvement in safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

(PPE) Personal Protective Equipment is required when performing work in a mine, manufacturing, outdoor, or plant environment. Required PPE may include, but is not limited to, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
Working Conditions - Our facility sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. Employees may be subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting (heat and cold, wind). Work is at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, which may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.
Physical Demands - Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing – all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing – distant/near; depth perception; color vision. While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
