This position will oversee the delivery of educational, science-based, and interactive curriculum to children ages 5-15. Session content areas may include but are not limited to astronomy, aeronautics, engineering, archeology, marine science, ecology and biology. The Summer Camp Coordinator will report directly to the Science Education Manager who will be serving as Camp Manager. The following is the required time commitment for the position./p ul liUp to 40 hours per week/li liAvailability Monday � Friday, 9:00 am � 5:30 pm./li liAvailability for all nine weeks of Summer Camp running from June 8- August 7. There will be no camp on June 19 and July 3./li liAvailability to start the week of June 1 for training and camp preparations (if this date is not possible, it is not an automatic disqualification but please note this on your application)./li liHours are subject to operational needs and camper registration./li /ul pstrongSALARY/strong: $18 per hour, Temporary FT - non-exempt/p pstrongKEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:/strong/p ul liFacilitate the pre-planning and prep work regarding camp./li liCoordinate a comprehensive schedule of day-to-day activities for the duration of the nine weeks of summer camp./li liDemonstrate leadership to ensure safety of campers and maintain positive conduct among campers./li liSupervise a team of camp teaching aides, providing guidance and feedback to camp staff while maintaining a positive attitude. Act as a role model to camp instructors, teaching aides and volunteers./li liComplete scheduling of camp staff and respond to staff calling out as needed./li liAssist the Camp Manager with issues that may arise with campers throughout the day, e.g. misbehavior, filling out incident report forms and parent correspondence./li liAssist camp instructors and lead activities as needed in the delivery of interactive, science-based camp classes. Classes may include but are not limited to astronomy, aeronautics, engineering, marine science, ecology, paleontology, chemistry, human health, and biology. Classes may be indoors or outdoors./li liWork with children aged 5-15 years old in a museum-based, hands-on environment./li liSupport with the general supervision of the camp, including classroom and behavior management./li liPrepare and organize supplies prior to the start of each week of camp./li liSupport in maintaining the classroom and other museum spaces used during camp, always ensuring a safe and clean environment. This includes set up for activities/experiments, keeping tables and chairs organized, and clean-up of supplies and materials at the end of each activity and the end of the day./li liSupervise during morning drop-offs, lunch, and afternoon pick-ups./li liDresses appropriately in the Frost Science uniform, including a provided Frost Science polo, solid-colored pants or long shorts (no jeans), and comfortable, slip-resistant closed-toe shoes./li liThe Summer Camp Coordinator must attend orientation and training to review class curricula, safety policies and museum guidelines before camp commences./li liEnsure camp participants are supervised at all times during the program in coordination with the Camp Manager./li liMaintain daily contact with the Camp Manager./li liPerforms other job-related duties as assigned./li /ul pstrongMINIMUM JOB/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:/strong/p ul liA minimum of 2 years of college completed; however, Bachelor�s in a science or education field preferred/li liAn interest in science and the desire to work with children in a camp setting/li liExperience working with elementary or middle-school aged children/li liExperience working with children with special needs a plus/li liTeaching certification a plus/li liCPR and First Aid Certified by the first day of camp (Frost Science will provide training if needed)./li /ul pstrongREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:/strong/p ul liDemonstrate leadership qualities and sound judgment/li liPunctual, enthusiastic, mature, and flexible/li liAbility to communicate effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of service/li liMust follow museum�s established policies and safety regulations/li liGood knowledge of educational methods and/or a comfort with a variety of science topics together with the ability to have fun and participate in interactive and engaging activities in the class/li liMust exhibit an energetic attitude while engaging with campers and enjoy working with children/li liProficiency in another language is a plus, but not required/li /ul pstrongWORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:/strong/p ul liWork generally involves moving around the museum, frequent use of stairs with potential for light lifting./li liWork is performed both indoors and outdoors./li liThis position requires working with tools and chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment./li liThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
