Special Education Bus Driver

pstrongGENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: /strongThe Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transporting of special education students of the SJCISD. Other duties involve managing the operation of the bus to ensure a safe and hazard free environment for all students./p pnbsp;/p pstrongREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:/strong/p pnbsp;/p pnbsp;/p ol liRequired:nbsp; High school diploma or equivalent, CPR/AED, first aid training and other training as required (will be provided if needed)./li liCommercial Driver's License appropriate for pupil transportation is necessary./li liMust pass a criminal record check and drug and alcohol testing./li liExcellent driving record./li liAbility to meet Department of Transportationnbsp;physical examination requirements./li liMust have prior work experience with children./li liResponsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentationnbsp;to the business office before expiration date of said document(s)./li liMust be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds./li liRequired to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day./li liMust have regular and reliable job attendance, performance and the physical ability to do the job.strongnbsp;/strong/li /ol pnbsp;/p h1PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:/h1 ol liTo meet the requirements and follow the rules and regulations as established by the Michigan Department of Education and the SJCISD ./li liTo obey all laws governing the operation of a vehicle and/or a school bus./li liDrive a school bus according to a designated route and schedule.nbsp; Participate in determining route and time changes when necessary./li liOperate a bus in various traffic, weather and road conditions with the safety of students as the priority./li liSupervise students while driving, maintain a safe and orderly atmosphere on the bus./li linbsp;Communicate with the Pathfinder building principal regarding student behavior or medical and safety issues./li liMaintain the bus in a clean and orderly condition, sweep and empty trash./li liRefuel the bus when necessary, as determined by the ISD Administration./li liResponsible for the bus, its' equipment, its' passengers and any aides assigned to his/her bus./li liMust complete daily pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and must immediately report needed repairs./li liMust follow the cell phone policy./li liCertified in CPR/AED, first aid training and other training as required (will be provided if needed)./li liTo be at assigned work site at stated starting times, ready to perform assigned duties./li liTo appropriatelynbsp;secure wheelchairs with safety equipment./li liTo keep all student, parent and staff information confidential./li liTo have a positive attitude in working with students, parents, community members and other staff members./li liTo prepare and maintain route sheets./li liTo assist Adminstration in mapping bus routes and planning schedules when needed./li liTo prepare reports and keep all required records./li liTo prepare "Accident Report" after any accident involving the bus and/or school bus passengers./li liWill be assigned weekend and mandatory time, when needed./li liPerform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD Administrators./li /ol pnbsp;/p pstrongREPORTS TO:/strong nbsp;Facilities and Transportation Supervisor/p pnbsp;/p pstrongASSESSMENT: /strongnbsp;Facilities and Transportation Supervisor/p pnbsp;/p pstrongTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:nbsp; /strongminimum 176 days.nbsp; Salary and conditions of employment are determined by the Board of Education./p pnbsp;/p
