h2About the Department/h2pThe Correctional Officer I is responsible for the security, health, welfare and safety of inmates in the County's jail facility, and the effective delivery of correctional services through the observance of all federal and state laws, county ordinances, correctional policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Responsibilities may include supervising inmates and enforcing rules and regulations to ensure the security of assigned area and personnel; performing well-being checks; searching cells and inmates; performing booking and release duties; and recording medical information; maintaining applicable documents. Incumbents of this position may be relied upon for providing credible and effective testimony in court and elsewhere. It is of utmost importance that persons in this position conduct themselves in a manner both at work and outside of work in a manner that does not cause concern regarding their ability to be able to provide credible and effective testimony./ph2Position Duties/h2pstrongCorrections: /strongbrul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"liSupervise inmates, perform well-being checks, administer medication, search cells and inmates and enforce rules and regulations to ensure safety and security of assigned area and personnel./liliRespond to medical emergencies within the facility./liliMust be able to keep accurate logs and update files./liliBook and release inmates; screen inmates for behaviors, attitudes, and interests and record medical information and property brought into the jail facility./liliConduct daily indiscriminate strip searches of work release inmates upon return from work./liliMonitor volunteers that come in to provide activities for the inmates./liliSee to the daily needs of the inmates./liliCan be a bailiff for court at times and make occasional transports./liliReceive training in federal, state and local laws as they apply in law enforcement and detention facilities, including federal and state correction standards./liliPredatory Offender Registration Checks/liliMiscellaneous duties as apparent or assigned by supervisory staff./li/ulstrongOther duties 3pt"liMinimum qualification is a combination of high school diploma and preferred 2 or more years of related experience./liliObtain all required Correctional Officer State Licenses/Certifications heat, cold, and wetness./liliActivities that occur continuously are talking, smelling, hearing, communicating verbally, and using effective interpersonal skills./liliActivities that occur frequently include sitting, standing, walking, ascending and descending staircases, pushing, carrying and lifting weight up to 20 pounds, communicating in writing, and using effective time management skills./liliActivities that occur occasionally include bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, pulling, reaching straight, above and below shoulder level with both shoulders individually or at the same time, using near/far vision, depth perception, accommodation and color vision, problem solving, using analytical ability, organizational skills, concentrating, using
