Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick ) according to established procedure of South Shore Hospital./b/ppbr /a. Performs venipuncture using correct technique and with minimal discomfort to the patient.br /br /b. Performs fingerstick procedures with correct technique and when unable to obtain specimen by venipuncture.br /br /c. Performs heelstick on babies with correct technique.br /br /br /b2. Under supervision will help in the training of new employees and student interns at SSHamp;EC in the performance of phlebotomy duties./b/ppbr /a. Works with new employees to assist in training of departmental procedures.br /br /b. Acts as a resource to new employees.br /br /br /b3. Follows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures./b/pp/ppbr /b4. OUTREACH: Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes./b/ppbr /a. Identifies patients by asking patient their name and date of birth.br /br /b. Sign labeled tubes with phlebotomists#39; initials also, time amp; date of draw.br /br /br /b5. Organizes assigned work and accurately completes work load./b/ppbr /a. Requests amp; schedules Outreach patients utilizing Hospital computer systembr /br /b. Organizes morning routes to include fastings and drug levels.br /br /c. Organizes routes by town for homebound patient draws.br /br /d. Calls homebound patients to schedule draw times within two hours time frame.br /br /e. Accepts STAT add-on calls within the contracted time frames.br /br /f. Draws all assigned patients by the end of the shift.br /br /g. Completes accurate tally prior to the conclusion of the work shift./pp/ppbr /b6. Calls/faxes/delivers reports to Outreach/Off-site clients/areas as required./b/ppbr /a. Calls completed results to doctor’s offices in a timely manner.br /br /b. Notifies VNA of STAT or abnormal results when requested.br /br /br /b7. Helps co-workers and communicates with the Outreach Coordinator when needed to ensure an orderly work flow./b/ppbr /a. Assists co-workers with additional blood-draws as necessary including add-ons and STAT#39;s.br /br /b. Assists co-workers in scheduling patient draws when unavailable due to vacation or illness.br /br /c. Informs Outreach Coordinator of problems in obtaining specimens for any reason.br /br /d. Updates all patients#39; information received into hospital computer system.br /br /br /b8. EKG: Performance of Electrocardiograms/b/ppbr /a. Enter all patient demographics into EKG cart.br /br /b. Introduce self, explain procedure to patient, check patient ID.br /br /c. Apply 4 limb leads and 6 precordial leads according to standardized placement.br /br /d. Collect 12 seconds of data and insure that tracing is complete and good quality.br /br /e. Print one (1) copy of EKG: allow data to store to disk.br /br /f. Deliver one (1) copy to patient#39;s chart (or nurse).br /br /g. Transmit disk to Data Management System.br /br /br /b9. Consistently adheres to the established protocol for patient identification using two patient identifiers when performing EKG function./b/pp/ppbr /b10. Technology – Is receptive to technological solutions to work processes and practices./b/pp/ppbr /b11. Safety Awareness – Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment as stated in the Safety Management Program Manual, Infection Control Manual and Phlebotomy Policies amp; Procedure Manual. Consistently adheres to established Laboratory and Hospital policies for Universal Precautions and Safety Procedures.br /br /b. When handling blood/and or body fluids, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be utilized in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases.br /br /c. Wears gloves, gowns, goggles, or masks as required.br /br /d.
