pThe Health Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of all campers and staff. The Health Supervisor will provide medical treatment to campers and staff in case of illness or emergencies within his or her scope of practice and maintain communication with parents where applicable. The Health Supervisor will also complete the medical check-in process of all campers, keep and review medical records, maintain and order medical equipment for the camp, distribute camper medication, and ensure that sanitation and safety practices are maintained throughout the camp. /p

pProvide health care to meet the individual needs of camp staff and campers by following health care policies and procedures as described in the American Camp Association standards, NYS Department of Health, and Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints and collaborating with counselors and other staff about medical needs of campers. /p

pEnsure inventory of camp health center and order all necessary supplies and equipment prior to the start of the resident camp season. Set up the camp health center prior to the start of the camp season. /p

pMaintain accurate and detailed medical records that are in compliance with New York State and American Camp Association standards. /p

/ul
ul
li
pPrepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications, including gathering and documenting first aid records from other staff members. /p

pUnderstand and utilize CampDoc online system for medical reporting, paperwork and emergency contact information. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pEnsure camper and staff health examinations are current and on file. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pPrepare and record insurance and accident report forms as applicable. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pMaintaining in-depth knowledge about the facility and its emergency action plan, and activate the emergency action plan when necessary; respond to on-site incidents and accidents. Follow reporting procedures to the Camp Director and GSNYPENN Director of Outdoor Experience. /p

pUtilize CPR and First Aid training as necessary. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pPrepare and distribute first aid kids throughout the camp, including to the living units, camp vehicles, kitchen, offices, waterfront, activity areas, and off-camp trips, ensuring supplies are well-stocked and re-distributed as needed. /p
/li

ul
li
pPrepare all necessary medical paperwork and supplies for off-camp trips. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pDeliver an orientation session during pre-camp staff training on medical services; ensure the camp staff know their role related to health care and first aid; provide orientation on health care procedures, emergency procedures, staff health assessment of campers, accident prevention, and procedures for giving first aid in the camp setting. /p

pScreen or oversee the screening of all campers and staff who are arriving at camp, including verifying health history and emergency authorization, identifying any observable evidence of illness or communicable disease, conducting a health assessment, and collecting all medications used by campers or staff. /p

pSupervise sanitary conditions throughout camp, observing the daily cleanliness in the food service and health care facilities, and reporting any health problems, such as symptoms of illness or issues with camper medication, to the Camp Director. /p

pContact parents concerning the status of their child’s health during any notable health condition, such as an injury requiring x-ray, a stay in the infirmary, emergency treatment or accident, et cetera. /p

ul
li
pActing as a leader and role model to other staff members through use of excellent customer service skills, maintaining a professional demeanor and positive, upbeat disposition, maintaining the tenets of the Girl Scout Law, and communicating with other staff members in a way that is positive and encouraging. /p

pAdhere to all COVID-19 protocols required by NYS Department of Health and GSNYPENN. /p

pSupervisory Responsibilities: /p
pThe Health Supervisor does not supervise employees but does supervise campers. /p
p /ph4Qualifications/h4brpMinimum Qualification Standards: /p
ul

pBe at least 21 years of age. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pHold one of the following: Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Physician, or Physician’s Assistant (PA). /p
/li

ul
li
pKnowledge of and experience working with children in a medical setting. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pAbility to maintain health records. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pAbility to administer medication or supervise the self-administration of medication. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pCurrent advanced level CPR certification in compliance with NYS Department of Health regulations, or willingness to obtain. /p
/li
/ul
ul
li
pCurrent advanced level First Aid certification in compliance with NYS Department of Health regulations, or willingness to obtain. /p

li
pBelieve in the Girl Scout mission. /p
/li

pKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: /p

pExcellent verbal and written communication skills. /p
/li

ul

pStrong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously. /p

pPossess good character, integrity, patience, sense of humor, enthusiasm, a high level of flexibility, and willingness to be a part of the camp community. /p
