divpUnder general direction, provides direct patient care to practice patients in both office and Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) settings. Responsibilities include entering patient intake and provider orders into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), requesting medical records, utilizing the pharmacy drug monitoring program as directed by providers, recording vital signs and medical history, collecting patient information, and facilitating patient flow. Complies with measures to assure that patient/customer satisfaction results are consistently maintained./p
pstrongEssential Duties and Responsibilities:/strong/p
ul
liPerform job in accordance with Company Mission, vision, and goals./li
liAssists in bringing patients to pre-op, recovery and transporting for discharge./li
liAssists patients with medical forms, as necessary./li
liExercise confidentiality in all areas, abiding by HIPAA rules and regulations./li
liAccurately completes applicable paperwork; ensuring patient medical records are complete. Prepares all forms and requisitions as instructed by the provider./li
liCreates and maintains a positive atmosphere of customer service, teamwork, mutual respect, professionalism and accountability. /li
liVerifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit, and confirming patient ID./li
liAnswers telephones in a professional manner and delivers messages promptly./li
liReturns patient calls in a timely manner./li
liMaintains and improves current skills and knowledge by attending all relevant meetings, classes, trainings and by keeping certifications current. /li
liAdheres to Infection Control, Safety and OSHA standards as specified by State, and Company standards./li
liMaintains knowledge of, and complies with State, Company and any other applicable policies and procedures./li
liAssists nursing staff with obtaining and recording vital signs, pregnancy tests and glucometer checks. Verifies patient history information and takes detailed history when indicated. Informs nursing staff and physician of results./li
liMakes frequent rounds on patients in pre-op and recovery to provide for any other needs of the patient prior to discharge. /li
liPerforms daily, weekly and monthly safety and equipment checks./li
liDaily reviews upcoming cases and notifies nurse of any potential issues./li
liReviews schedule daily and assists with office procedures to help maintain patient flow, and accuracy of scheduled procedure./li
liAssists with inventory and order supplies for all procedures in the ASC, as directed./li
liSets up the sterile field on the Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, medications and equipment needed for procedures./li
liPositions the patient for the procedures, establishes the sterile field, and drapes the patient for the procedures./li
liAssists providers by passing instruments and supplies to them and holding retractors (as needed) during procedures./li
liIf assisting with procedures, adheres to all federal, state and nursing regulations and protocols including but not limited to patient safety procedures such as verification of patient identification prior to procedures

liImmediately prior to the start of any procedure in the procedure room, initiate/participates in a time-out and ensures correct patient, procedure, site and side, and that there are no additional concerns./li
liIdentifies every patient with two identifiers: full name and date of birth/li
liDocuments this information in the Procedure Safety Checklist, including the time of the time-out/li

liSterilizes and breaks down procedure room after each patient and ensures procedure room is cleaned prior to the beginning of a procedure./li
liKeeps rooms clean and stocked with supplies./li
liMaintains stock of medicines and supplies as necessary. Advises Office Manager when replacements are needed./li
liSterilizes and cleans instruments used in examinations and/or procedures; maintains clean and hygienic environment./li
liMonitors personal and provider staff task buckets in the EMR./li
liSets up the sterile field on the Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, medications and equipment needed for procedures./li
liPositions the patient for the procedures, establishes the sterile field, and drapes the patient for the procedures./li
liOperates, sterilizes, and maintains necessary equipment, including but not limited to the autoclave, RFA machine, etc./li
liAssists the physician with use of the C-Arm/li
liAccurately maintains daily/monthly record keeping of radiation logs./li
liAccurately completes and maintains all applicable records and logs (i.e.: radiation, spore testing, equipment, medical records, etc.)./li
liProperly maintains examination/procedure rooms, recovery areas, nurse�s stations, and all other clinical areas./li
liAdheres to Infection Control, Safety and OSHA standards as specified by State, Joint Commission and Company standards./li
liMaintains knowledge of, and complies with established State, Joint Commission, Company and any other applicable policies and procedures./li
liStarts IV as needed after competency skills check-off./li
liInstructs patients in simple procedures/tests and dispenses appropriate educational materials (clinical office only)./li
liRelays provider orders to the patient (clinical office only)./li
liPrepares, cleans and maintains all clinical equipment (clinical office only)./li
liDraws up injections to be administered (clinical office only)./li
liVerifies that radiological and laboratory records are received and in the patient chart. If radiological and/or laboratory records are not in the chart, takes necessary steps to obtain the records (clinical office only)./li
liFits patients for durable medical equipment (DME) and completes all applicable paperwork, as directed (clinical office only)./li
liObtains prior authorizations for radiology and/or prescriptions, as needed (clinical office only)./li
liKeeps rooms clean and stocked with supplies (clinical office only)./li
liLabels specimens accurately and distributes them to the appropriate personnel to ensure specimen integrity (clinical office only)./li
liProcesses specimens and prepares them for shipping (clinical office only)./li
liMaintain lab area with ample supplies and in a clean and safe condition (clinical office only)./li
liFollows test requirements of laboratory and procures unaltered urine specimen for testing (clinical office only)./li
liProperly maintains examination rooms and all other clinical areas (clinical office only)./li
liChecks work e-mail on a regular basis throughout the workday./li
liParticipate in and complete all required trainings and in-services./li
liPerforms other duties as assigned. /li

liHigh School Diploma, or equivalent./li
liMust have knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook)./li

liMust be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, clinical staff, other co-workers and the public./li

liIf working in an ASC, must provide proof of influenza vaccination annually (must wear a procedure mask if refusing the flu vaccine)./li
liMust complete two (2)-step PPD (NE staff) OR must complete an annual PPD (SE staff)./li
liMust complete all regulatory competencies in accordance with working in the ASC./li
liWithin first ninety (90) days of employment as a Medical Assistant with C-Arm, must complete C-arm competencies./li
liAll staff are expected to have a strong desire to provide excellent customer service; to comply with the rules and regulations of those organizations to which we are accountable; to have high ethical and professional standards of conduct; and to have an attitude of wanting to continuously improve their own professional performance./li

liThree (3) months of prior experience assisting in the use of a C-Arm machine./li

liOne (1) year of prior experience as a Patient Care Tech in an Ambulatory Surgery Center/Operating Room setting./li
