pstrongGENERAL SUMMARY/strong/p pThe Sylvan Teacher is responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students bynbsp;teaching students using Sylvan program materials. nbsp;Using the program materials, the teacher createsnbsp;balanced and robust learning experiences for students. nbsp;The Sylvan Teacher evaluates studentnbsp;progress on each assignment, communicates this progress, and works with Center staff to ensurenbsp;learning is personal for each student. nbsp;/p pstrongESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/strong/p ul liPrepares for each instructional session; Gathers and prepares materials as appropriatenbsp;/li liGreets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student/li liInstructs students according to the design of the Sylvan programs/li liManages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional sessionnbsp;/li liEvaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment nbsp;/li liUses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn/li liMotivates students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to the Sylvannbsp;instructional management standards nbsp;/li liRecords and tracks tokens earned by students nbsp;/li liManages the conclusion of each instructional session and manages the completion of nbsp;learningnbsp;log and transition activities; Supports procedures to ensure student safety and well-being/li liCommunicates specific student needs to Center staff/li liAttends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needednbsp;/li liCompletes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students/li /ul pstrongKNOWLEDGE REQUIRED/strong/p ul liLanguage Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers:nbsp; ul liFour year degree or equivalent required/li liState or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired)/li liMinimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred/li liKnowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers/li liAble to work with special needs students a plus/li /ul /li liMath Program Teachers: ul li pFour year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college levelnbsp;math/p /li /ul /li liSAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers: ul liFour year degree or equivalent preferred/li /ul /li liKnowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phonesnbsp;/li liKnowledge of tablet computers preferred/li /ul pstrongSKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED/strong/p ul liProven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learnnbsp;/li liStrong interpersonal and communication skills/li liProven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexiblenbsp;/li liStrong problem solving and customer service skills/li liStrong team player/li /ul pThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. nbsp;They are not intended to be a complete list of all job responsibilities or skills, knowledge and abilitiesnbsp;required./p
