Responsibilities Job Functions/u/strong:br /br //p ul liKeeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat, clean and safe at all times./li liMaintains the highest standard for safety and cleanliness while performing the duties according to all Federal, State, Local and Administrative guidelines and regulations./li liShovels, plows, and/or salts walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as needed to ensure safety./li liConducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair including painting as needed./li liCleans rooms daily and dusts sills, ledges, furniture, etc./li liCleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it./li liScrubs, hoses down, and disinfects restroom floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains./li liWashes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary./li /ul ul liKeeps the grounds free from rubbish./li liPerforms such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition./li liKeeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of repair./li liCleans all chalkboards/whiteboards at least once a week and more frequently if needed./li liReports major repairs needed promptly to the building Principal and Office of Operations./li liReports immediately to the Principal and Office of Operations any damage to school property./li liRemains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance is required./li liAssumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons are turned off./li liHelps insure safety by making sure all exterior doors and windows remain closed and secured throughout the day./li liKeeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand and requisitions such needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his duties./li liMoves furniture, equipment or other supplies within buildings as required for various activities and as directed./li liComplies with Federal, State and Local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste./li liConducts periodic inspections of all electrical installations and where possible make needed repairs./li liReplaces pencil sharpeners, cutter bars, chair glides and table glides as needed./li liScrub all ceiling light fixtures at least once each year and more frequently if necessary./li liReplace all burnt out bulbs and defective ballasts as needed./li liVacuum all carpets daily and scrub carpet at least once a year and more frequently if necessary./li liEmpty and dispose of contents of all waste baskets on a daily basis./li liSet up and remove cafeteria tables and chairs as necessary for the breakfast and lunch programs./li liAssist with the unloading of the food service truck of daily breakfast and lunch deliveries./li liSweep and damp mop the lunchroom area on a daily basis immediately following the student breakfast and lunch programs./li liCheck and sign the milk delivery invoices on each delivery day and turn in to the building office./li liInspect the roof on a regular basis to insure that all drains are open and that the roof is in good repair and free of debris./li liIf required check the building on weekends and holidays to insure that proper heat is being maintained, that all necessary equipment is functioning properly and that the building has not been vandalized./li liRefill hand towel dispensers, soap dispensers, toilet tissue dispensers and sanitary napkin dispensers daily as needed./li liAssume responsibility for the general fire safety of the building./li liPerform emergency repair or cleaning service as necessary or directed./li liWhere possible repair broken furniture and equipment as needed./li liKeep all equipment and tools clean and at maximum operating efficiency./li liPromote kindness to students, courtesy to teachers and assist in maintaining order in the hallways, cafeteria and playgrounds./li liMaintain a friendly helpful attitude toward students, cafeteria employees and the public/li liNever leave the building during your shift or in an emergency situation without specific authorization./li liResponds to emergency calls on any day at any hour./li liCheck all playground equipment and swing chains at least once a week and make necessary repairs to insure maximum safety./li liRepair all leaking faucets and related flush valves as needed./li /ul pnbsp;br /nbsp;br /strongOther Duties and Responsibilities:/strong/p ul liAttend meetings and in-services as required by Board Policy, the Superintendent or designee, or the State Department of Education./li liEnsure the safety of the students and report any safety concern, confrontation, complication or conflict immediately to the building Principal./li liFollow all district policies and procedures as defined in the employee code of conduct and negotiated agreements./li liInteracts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents/li liMaintain respect at all times for confidential information/li liMake contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy/li liPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation/li liAccess and respond to e-mails on a daily basis/li /ul ul liRespond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner/li liServe as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings/li liPerform other duties as assigned by the head
