Job Summary

The Concrete Foreman plays a critical leadership role in performing, coordinating, and overseeing highway and heavy civil construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to quality standards. This position supervises journeymen, apprentices, and laborers while managing equipment, materials, and daily jobsite operations.

 

The Foreman serves as the primary point of contact between project managers, superintendents, and field crews, ensuring clear communication, efficient workflow, and strict adherence to project plans, safety regulations, and budget constraints. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong field experience in highway construction, concrete work, drilling operations, and installation of large highway infrastructure.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily work activities of assigned construction crews
  • Operate heavy equipment such as drill rigs, backhoes, ditch witches, rock saws, bucket trucks, and other mobile equipment to dig, move materials, lift heavy items, and compact or level earth to grade specifications
  • Operate large and small motor vehicles to transport materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Use judgment based on experience and available resources to ensure accurate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and other construction equipment
  • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
  • Oversee and participate in drilling operations, ensuring correct placement and compliance with engineering and safety standards
  • Lead and assist crews with concrete pouring, finishing, and curing to meet quality and specification requirements
  • Supervise installation of large highway signs and related structures, ensuring proper alignment, anchoring, and safety compliance
  • Assist with erecting and disassembling scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures
  • Assist in controlling traffic passing near, in, and around active work zones
  • Load and unload building materials, machinery, and tools
  • Estimate material, equipment, and labor requirements to complete assigned jobs
  • Ensure all materials and equipment are available prior to beginning work
  • Assign work based on employee qualifications, job procedures, and project needs
  • Ensure the worksite is safe at all times and perform all required safety duties
  • Perform routine safety, maintenance, and servicing inspections and complete required reports
  • Inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to ensure specifications and standards are met
  • Record and submit personnel, production, equipment, and operational data using required forms, reports, and systems
  • Assist crew members with construction activities as needed, using hand tools and equipment

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in highway or heavy civil construction
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory, lead, or foreman role
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in highway projects
  • Ability to read, interpret, and utilize construction plans and specifications
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Highway construction experience
  • Previous experience as a construction foreman
  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL)
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English

Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments with constant exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and extreme temperatures. 

Mobile Equipment:

This position is assigned to a company vehicle and requires frequent travel to and between job sites.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent operation of heavy equipment with vibrating and moving parts
  • Frequent and repeated hand and arm movement to manipulate tools, handles, and levers
  • Frequent lifting from ground to various heights up to 50 pounds individually, with team lifting for heavier items
  • Frequent exertion of force up to 100 pounds
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Frequent walking on uneven or unpaved terrain
  • Frequent climbing of steps, ladders, and in/out/onto vehicles
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching
  • Visual acuity required to drive, distinguish colors, perform detailed work, and read printed and electronic documents
  • Hearing capacity to recognize and respond to construction and roadway noises
  • Manual dexterity to frequently manipulate, handle, and feel objects
  • Frequent operation of motor vehicles for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day)
  • Constant use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
