pstrongTraining and Expectations/strong /p

liAttend and participate in classroom (online or in person) and on the job hours (shadowing or clinicals). /li
/ul
ul
liMaintain good standing in all course work. /li
/ul
ul
liFollow all program policies and procedures. /li
/ul
ul
liSign a Pathways Employee Agreement committing to work for UnityPoint Health as a Medical Assistant. /li
/ul
ul
liMaintain all eligibility requirements to participate for the duration of the program. /li
/ul
pstrongClinical Excellence/Patient Care/strong /p
ul
liAssist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures. /li
/ul
ul
liDemonstrates competence in the clinical skills necessary to carry out assigned job duties. /li
/ul
ul
liMay be required to draw and collect blood and other samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. /li
/ul
ul
liAdminister ordered vaccines. /li
/ul
ul
liSchedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider. /li
/ul
ul
liComplete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-9 coding. /li
/ul
ul
liResponsible for tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status. /li
/ul
ul
liProvide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient's electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes. /li
/ul
pstrongDevelopment and Patient Education/strong /p
ul
liAnswer questions and provide teaching to patients and family members. /li
/ul
ul
liThoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps, as appropriate to scope and licensure. /li

liBe aware of what is happening in clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization’s intranet site /li

liDemonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. /li

pstrongEducation/strong: /p
pHS Diploma or equivalent /p

pstrongExperience: /strong/p
pMust be 18 years of age (or 17 with requirements) /p

p6 months of experience in a direct patient facing role OR prior experience as an Experience Specialist or similar role in the healthcare setting, OR successful completion of a healthcare certification (Phlebotomy, EMT, or CNA) /p
p /p
