American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit position requiring at least 2 years of inpatient experience and the ability to administer chemotherapy.
Details- Night shift position, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- Med/Surg unit with a primary oncology patient population (Med/Surg-Oncology)
- 13-week minimum contract length, with extensions up to 26 weeks available
- Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:6, though ratios may increase during high census periods
- Daily unit census of 42 patients
- Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, septic shock, cancer, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, OD, and pain management
- Chemotherapy/biotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injection is part of the role
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas
- On-call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; any called-out shifts must be made up
- EMR: Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication standard: SBAR
- Local candidates are accepted
- Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current BLS certification required
- Oncology certification (OCN) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient RN experience required
- Must be able to administer chemotherapy if needed
- Proficiency in the following skills required: Med/Surg, colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin drips, insulin management, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but references must be on file by start date)
- Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts) plus 8–10 hours of online modules that must be completed prior to start and annually thereafter
- Charge nurse experience and CPI certification are preferred
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have previously worked for this health system as a permanent, PRN, or EP employee must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
- Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected
- Navy blue and white scrubs required
- Travel pairs are allowed; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but may be subject to a different pay rate
