Child life specialists focus on the psychosocial development of children, provide emotional support, developmentally appropriate information, and play opportunities to increase understanding and coping with medical procedures, diagnoses, pain management and grief. Child life specialists also address the needs of siblings or other children affected by a patient’s illness/diagnosis. Child life specialists at AdventHealth utilize play and self-expressive activities as primary resources to minimize the stress and anxiety patients and families may face during healthcare experiences. Child life specialists are highly respected and valued by both multidisciplinary team members and administration at AdventHealth.
