pThis position performs resident/patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, safety, and comfort of residents/patients as assigned. Assists in providing a positive physical, social, and psychological environment. The CNA II relates positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents/patients, families, community members, volunteers and other facility staff. Successful incumbents have fast and adaptive problem-solving skills who value collaboration and teamwork. This position has an in-depth understanding of patient care policies and regulations and is comfortable working with specific populations of patients, including elderly patients and those with special needs./p

pstrongEssential Functions and Responsibilities:/strong/p
p1. Assists with resident/patient care needs and comforts including but not limited to:/p
ul
liAssists or gives oral hygiene and mouth care./li
liAssists with bathing functions and dressing/undressing as necessary./li
liAssists with nail care, shaving and hair care./li
liAssists with lifting, turning, positioning and transporting residents./li
liMakes both occupied and unoccupied bed (as assigned)./li
liKeeps residents/patients dry (i.e. change gown, clothing, linen, etc.) when they become soiled or wet./li
liAssists resident/patient with bowel or bladder functions./li
liChecks resident/patients frequently to assure that their personal care needs are being met./li

p2. Assists with nursing functions as follows:/p
ul
liMeasures and records vital signs./li
liWeighs and measures residents/patients./li
liCollects Specimens (i.e. urine, stool, sputum)/li
liPrepares and gives enemas./li
liProvides daily indwelling catheter care./li
liPerforms diabetic urine testing./li
liTurns bedfast residents/patients at least every two hours./li
liProvides daily range of motion exercises./li
liAssists with care of dying residents./li
liMaintains accurate intake and output records./li
liNoting observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses./li

p3. Performs food service functions including:/p
ul
liPrepares resident/patients for meals (i.e. take to bathroom, wash hands, oral care, take to and from dining room, etc.)./li
liServes food trays. Assists with feeding as indicated./li
liRecords the residents/patients food fluid intake./li
liServes between meal and bedtime snacks./li
liKeeps resident’s/patient’s water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift./li
liPerforms after meal care (i.e. clean residents/patients hands, face, clothing, brush teeth, take to bathroom, etc.)./li
liNotes and reports changes in resident/patient eating habits, especially those on diabetic diet./li
liAssists with keeping nursing and resident/patient care area neat, sanitary and orderly./li
liFloats to the OVCH Acute Care Facility four (4) times each year./li
liAppropriately records and charges for supplies./li
liPerforms other duties as assigned./li

liCurrent Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification./li
liCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification./li

liSix (6) months of CNA experience performing Nursing/Patient Care duties in an acute care setting or skilled nursing facility./li
