Physician Assistant - General Surgery

Every aspect of your work will reflect the Legacy mission of making life better for others./p p /p pUnder the direction of the PA’s Supervising Physician or Designated Agent, the strongSurgical Advanced Practitioner/strong provides medical and surgical services to patients of the assigned clinic.  /p h2Responsibilities/h2 pstrongInpatient Care/strong/p ul liProvides medical services under the direction of a physician to patients presenting specialty conditions or disease (depending on assigned department), consistent with the PA’s current Practice Description approved by the State of Oregon Board of Medical Examiners./li liRounds on service patients: assesses patients, performs physical exams, writes orders, documents daily notes./li liOrders and interprets laboratory tests and radiological examinations. Reports clinical data at rounds or when appropriate.  /li liRecognizes and evaluates patients who require the immediate medical or surgical attention and, when necessary, initiates, without supervision, emergency medical treatments. /li liAssists in surgical procedures in emergency, clinic and the operating room./li liPerforms minor surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures, administers treatments and medications consistent with the PA’s current Practice Description approved by the State of Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.  /li liMaintains and signs medical records pertaining to treatments and examinations administered. /li liParticipates in local, regional, national continuing medical education programs and clinical meetings to maintain medical knowledge as well as a professional network./li /ul pstrongOutpatient Care/strong/p ul li Participates in Medical Specialty Outpatient Clinic./li liCo-ordinates discharge planning and follow-up./li liArranges all sub-specialty follow-up./li liCommunicates with PCPs./li liPerforms dictation of history/physical, clinical notes, imaging studies and discharge summary./li liOversees medications for outpatient care./li liArranges appropriate outpatient therapy, referral system within Legacy to be maximally utilized./li liManages outpatient phone contacts./li liMedication requests./li liDisability and work release./li liConsultant evaluations./li liEvaluates patients in the specialty outpatient clinic./li liAssures essential studies are performed prior to clinic visit./li liExamines and interviews patient and family./li liPresents case with recommendations to supervising physicians, as necessary./li liCoordinates and acts as liaison for subspecialty care and consultations./li liDocuments and bills for services promptly with appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes./li li Completes medical records and appropriate charge/coding data forms to facilitate hospital billing for service rendered./li /ul h2Qualifications/h2 pstrongEducation:/strong  /p ul liRequires Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a PA program accredited by any of the following accrediting bodies: ul liCommittee on Allied Health, Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA);/li liCommission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP);/li liAccreditation Review Commission on the Education of the PA (ARC-PA)./li /ul/li /ul pstrongExperience:  /strong /p ul liRequires experience in direct patient management, in the surgical or medical subspecialty of the department one is hired into.  /li liSurgical assisting experience required if working with a surgical specialty.  /li liKnowledge of acute and chronic disease states, administration and prescription of medications, and delivering physical care following treatment plan./li /ul h2Licensure/h2 ul liCurrent applicable state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or ability to obtain licensure upon date of hire. /li liCurrent BLS for Providers from the American Heart Association. /li liMust submit information necessary to complete a National Practitioner Data Base search and meet Legacy’s standards for results./li /ul h2Pay Range/h2USD $65.54 - USD $97.66 /Hr. h2Our Commitment to Health and Equal Opportunity/h2 pOur Legacy is good for health for Our People, Our Patients, Our Communities, Our World.
